Kids Are Amazing What They Say Is The Best Entertainment Sometimes
So tonight at the dinner table I started to tell my wife, Diane, about something cool happening with some of the website marketing strategies that we’re working on. And Diane asked me if I could table that conversation until later because it was not really a conversation that we could include Raelin in. For those who do not know, Raelin is our daughter. And I retorted with it wouldn’t take long and that I was excited to share it with Diane – and it was family time to talk about our days yah dah yah dah! So Diane offered that if I was quick perhaps I could get it in.
So I started into my “story” about work, and Raelin speaks out: “Hurry Daddy, we do not have a lot of time.” Now, I want to remind you that she is 2 and 1/2 years old. Of course Diane and I started laughing pretty hard at what she said. I laughed because it was funny and in disbelief that she had the brain power to say something like that. When I gathered my thoughts I quickly told my “story” which took all of 45 seconds. Diane was impressed in my condensed version. But of course I was condensed because we did not have a lot of time.

What is Freedom? It is all related to what you say and do not say!

Should I Say it or Not?
Freedom means a lot of things to a lot of different people. It is hard to answer this question in a long answer, let alone here in a short blog post. However, I was talking to a friend the other day about a leadership program she was in and she was looking for some perspective on an issue she was dealing with. So I offered this to her about what I thought freedom is:
The one thing about freedom is this…that you really have anything to hide. That you think you have to hide something because if it got out you’d be the bad guy that no one likes or it would show that you are weird is what has you trapped. It is not necessary to disclose everything in life, but knowing that you could and that you are willing to is pure freedom!
So is it really necessary to categorize anything as a secret? In my world it is not. There is just what I’m willing to say and do, and what I’m willing to say and don’t. In the purest sense, there is no other meaning to what I say and what I don’t. But my humanity gets the best of me, and things that I don’t say seem to turn into secrets – that is the things that I’m not willing to say. The more I’m not willing to say, the more trapped or less free I feel.
The more I say, the more I’m free.
Got High Blood Pressure? Play Tennis

Raelin Playing Tennis With Daddy's Racquet
For years I have had border line high blood pressure. I have been around 130 over 85 for years which hasn’t been high enough to put me on medication, but high enough to be worried about. I’m happy to report that my latest doctor’s visit which was to get checked out for flu, or sinus infection, returned my lowest weight in several years and a bp of 122 over 78. I nearly cried. In fact, I had the Doc check the PA’s work to make sure it wasn’t some flukey number and she got the same numbers as the PA.
I attribute my lower blood pressure to playing tennis again. Since the beginning of June I have been playing tennis 3-4 times per week and have gotten back into a little better shape than I had been for quite a few years. Tennis is a great sport and with playing it as often as I was it is definitely helping me get my body and health back.
So for anyone out there worried about your health – ie high blood pressure – my recommendation is to play tennis. Or at the very least start exercising. It is worth it.
Got To Play Some Golf In Edinboro PA Too!
One of my favorite things to do is to play golf. While we were in Edinboro PA, near Erie PA, I got to play golf with some of Diane’s relatives as well as my dad. My dad, Paul, and my mom, Margie, drove up from Harrisburg, PA to spend a few days with us. We had a great time visiting with everyone.
Back to the golf game. For one of the rounds we played at Culbertson Golf Resort in Edinboro, PA my dad, me and a nephew in-law played behind a foursome made up of family and friends. And one particular hole we were surprised by a little present the foursome in front of us left. Below you can see a picture of it. These beers however, threw my dad off to the point of him shooting a 10 on a par 5. I’ve never seen my pops have a 10 before. My nephew Grant was kind though and gave my dad a 9 as he said that you can only officially mark down a 9 on a par 5. I learned something about scoring in golf you can only mark down 4 over on a par 5. Anyway, we all played pretty well in spite of dad’s 10 – ahem – 9.

Steelers Win The Superbowl Rematch Against The Arizona Cardinals – Nuff Said!

At Heinz Field Before The Game
I know it is only preseason, but I got a few phone calls from folks who knew I was going to the game who teased (gave me “S _ _ _”) about the Steelers not deserving the Super Bowl victory last February against the Cardinals and this preseason game would tell the truth. Well – all you nay sayers what do you have to say for your crap now. I don’t talk smack about my Steelers – but it is funny how many people give me smack about them. Meanwhile, I quietly go about being a dedicated fan and we keep winning rings – 6 now I think. I guess we’ve gotten lucky for all of them.
Oh well, we won again. Heinz field is marvelous. I’ll post some pictures when I get home from my travels. Just know that I had fun, drank my Iron City Light, Penn Pilsner, and Yuengling Lager and loved every swallow. Thanks Diane for the chance to go to the game.

Going To Pittsburgh To See Steelers vs Cardinals Pre-Season Game On August 13, 2009
I am going to the Steelers and Cardinals pre-season opener at Heinz Field on August 13, 2009. My wife has surprised me with this bit of news as it coincides with a trip we are going to take to Erie PA to visit her family.
Diane wanted to have it be a last minute surprise but decided that it would be far more fun to see me plan the trip, think about the game etc than wait. I’m glad she told me. She is sending me off to the game with her cousin Marci who is a close, but not quite as extreme fan as me. Well, perhaps she is just as extreme, but if she reads this and sees that I put her in second fiddle behind me it will stir her blood. But, since I concede that she’s at least equal, perhaps she’ll still drive.
I’m hoping to get down to Pittsburgh earlier than game time so we can trek around a bit before we have to go into the game. I have been to two other Steelers games and they are a blast. Oh I can’t wait for an Iron City Light.
We just purchased our tickets. We decided to sit up high and look down on the Pittsburgh side from Section 533 Row J.
More later…
Watched the FIFA Confederation Cup Final Today With USA and Brazil
I am not a huge soccer fan, but I do get excited to see the finals of big tournaments and today’s final was certainly one that I enjoyed. Too bad for the United States soccer team, but hooray for the champion Brazil team. They did not let being down 2-0 at the half get to them. In fact, when the second half started, it was as if a completely different Brazilian team was playing. Quickly into the second half, Brazil got on the scoreboard with their first goal and it was all Brazil from there.
